Khalil Rushdan is the Organizing Director for the ACLU of Arizona. Khalil served 15 years before his conviction for Felony Murder was overturned for vindictive prosecution. Since his exoneration, Khalil has been an advocate and a mentor for formerly incarcerated Arizonans. While previously serving as the Community Partnerships Coordinator for the organization, Rushdan worked with community groups with a special emphasis on organizations that work directly with those directly impacted by the criminal justice system and communities traditionally not involved in criminal justice work. As Organizing Director, Rushdan oversees the organizing components of the ACLU of Arizona’s criminal justice reform and education equity campaigns. pro-active multi-year advocacy campaigns to reduce the Arizona prison population and keep kids in school by limiting school suspensions and expulsions. In addition to leading both of those pro-active campaigns, Rushdan is responsible for developing organizing strategies around other priority issues such as immigrants’ rights and LGBTQ equality.
